🚀 Getting Started

Zippy Gizmos is a free productivity dashboard packed with 32+ utility widgets — called gizmos — that run right in your browser. No accounts, no installs, no tracking.

When you open the dashboard you'll see a grid of gizmo cards. Each card shows a compact preview of the tool. Click any card's title to open the full-page version with all features.

Quick overview

  1. Browse — Scroll the dashboard to see all available gizmos.
  2. Use — Interact with a gizmo directly on its card, or click the title to open the full view.
  3. Customize — Drag cards to reorder, hide ones you don't need, and pick a theme in Settings.

⚙ Using Gizmos

Dashboard cards

Each gizmo appears as a card on the dashboard. Many cards are interactive right on the grid — for example, you can start the stopwatch or jot a quick note without leaving the home page.

Full-page view

Click a gizmo card's title or icon to open its full-page view. The full page gives you more space, additional controls, and the complete feature set of that tool. A “Back to Home” button at the top takes you back to the dashboard.

API-powered gizmos

Some gizmos fetch live data (weather forecasts, exchange rates, news headlines, etc.). These are labeled API in the directory below. Data is fetched through a server-side proxy and cached briefly to keep things fast.

🎨 Customizing Your Dashboard

Reorder gizmos

Drag any gizmo card by its drag handle (the dotted icon at the top-right of each card) to rearrange the dashboard. Your layout is saved automatically.

Show or hide gizmos

Open Settings and toggle the switch next to each gizmo to show or hide it. Hidden gizmos won't appear on the dashboard but can be re-enabled anytime.

Change theme

Choose from 8 color themes in Settings:

  • Default — Classic blue on dark
  • Dark — Cyan accents, deep black
  • Forest — Green tones, nature-inspired
  • Sunset — Warm amber & rose
  • Arctic — Light blue, bright background
  • Lavender — Soft purple, light mode
  • Rose — Pink accents, light background
  • Mint — Teal & green, light mode

Your theme choice is saved and applied instantly across all pages.

⚙ Settings

The Settings page gives you control over your dashboard:

  • Theme picker — Select a color scheme. The active theme is highlighted with a border.
  • Gizmo toggles — Turn individual gizmos on or off. You can also drag items in the list to set your preferred order.
  • Reset to Defaults — Restores the original gizmo order and visibility, and resets the theme to Default.
💡 Changes in Settings are saved immediately — there's no “Save” button to press.

🔒 Data & Privacy

Zippy Gizmos is designed to respect your privacy:

  • 100% local storage — Your settings, notes, todos, habits, and all other data are stored in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to a server.
  • No accounts required — There's no sign-up, no login, and no personal information collected.
  • Encrypted storage — Data at rest is encrypted using SJCL (Stanford Javascript Crypto Library) before being written to localStorage.
  • API requests are proxied — When a gizmo fetches live data (weather, currency, etc.), the request goes through a server-side proxy. Your IP is not exposed to third-party APIs.

Clearing your data

To remove all saved data and start fresh:

  1. Go to Settings and click Reset to Defaults to restore default dashboard settings.
  2. To erase all gizmo data (notes, todos, etc.), clear your browser's localStorage for this site, or use your browser's “Clear site data” option.

⚡ Tips & Tricks

Keyboard shortcuts

Many gizmos support keyboard input for faster use:

  • Calculator — Type numbers and operators directly; press Enter to evaluate, Escape to clear.
  • Search — Press Enter to submit your query.
  • Notes — Just start typing — your text auto-saves as you go.

Mobile usage

The dashboard is fully responsive. On smaller screens, the gizmo grid automatically adjusts to a single column. All touch gestures (tap, drag) work as expected on phones and tablets.

Bookmarking gizmos

Each gizmo has its own URL (e.g. /gizmo/calculator). Bookmark a gizmo's full page to jump straight to it.

Works offline

Client-side gizmos (calculator, notes, todo, timer, etc.) work without an internet connection. Only API-powered gizmos need connectivity to fetch live data.
